2021 Public Relations Officer Dan Rush

Learn About your 2021 Association Public Relations officer
Dan Rush
Christy and I have been married for 25 wonderful years; blending 2 families, we have a total of 5 boys, 3 daughters-in-law and 3 grandchildren. I have been retired for almost 5 years.  Christy has a couple more years yet and we’re looking for those years to pass quickly.  My career path has been with the U.S.A.F., FedEx and retiring from Clopay Building Products, all in management positions.

When and how did you get involved with Corvettes?
In 2003 while visiting my son and his family in California, I had the opportunity to drive a new Anniversary Edition and the smile never left my face.  I knew I wanted one but it was going to take time.  We had boys at home still so the recreation for us was on the water where we could be together.  I told Christy that when I ever sold the boat, a Corvette would be the replacement.  The boat was sold and I just couldn’t find the right one.  I found a high mileage ’99 and we drove it but it wasn’t the right one so I waited.  Little did I know that Christy had called on the dealer after we had left and was going to buy it for me and surprise me with it for Christmas….But the dealer had already sold it.  She told me of her plans and I was flabbergasted.  Every year since then on Christmas morning, I would “casually” open the garage door and peek in the garage knowing it would be empty but still….(I was like a little boy on Christmas morning).  In September 2017 I found a 2003 Anniversary Edition and my adrenaline started to get pumped up, telephone calls, emails. finally made the trip to Des Moines to see the car.  I was disappointed as the wear was a little more than I bargained for and prepared myself for the long ride home when the dealer said he had a 2004 he wanted me to look at.  Walking outside and rounding the corner, I saw the car at the far end of his lot and I knew this was the one, Machine Silver Convertible with 8,200 miles…It took me 69 years but I finally got it.  December 2017, this little boy on Christmas morning slid through the kitchen, opened the door to the garage and his face lit up (picture attached)!!!  January 2018, Christy asked me what I wanted for my 70th birthday, I told her we hadn’t had a top down ride. She informed me it was 8 PM, 29 degrees outside….
I just looked at her and she said, “let me get my coat”….

How long have you been a member of the club?
This is our 2nd year of being a member of KCCA.  A friend has been a member for some time and sparked my interest.

What made you decide to get involved being an officer?
Getting to know the folks in the club and enjoying in the activities, many folks have been affiliated for many years and it seems like most, if not all, have served in some capacity.  We enjoyed our first year and I just knew that I wanted to be involved more.  Elections were coming up and I knew it was my time to step up and become more involved.

What message would you have to invite people to come join in the fun?

Since we have become members of KCCA, we have been to places we would never have dreamed of, many in our own backyard.  It’s fun to meet the group at a predetermined place and caravan off to parts unknown.  We have met new people at the monthly meetings and have enjoyed traveling with them to various events.  Car shows are yet another exciting time, I like to clean the car and show it whenever I can.  We plan on taking more road trips in the coming years, places we have wanted to go so why not take the Vette.  It’s fun to be around people who have the same love for cars as I do.
